A film is like a building.  How it stands up depends on the underpinnings.  A film is the same,  Making good Factual TV is all about thinking laterally and good research to underpin this, so you have a very clear idea about what you are going to do and why. You need to know far more detail than is ever in the film, so you get the right detail.
 
Then if you have strong underpinnings have the guts to alter the building on top;  to follow the action when it all seems to go wrong and something else happens.  My favourite rule is when it’s wrong it’s right. Off piste can be the most satisfying and real TV
